Welcome to the Paisley Thread Mill Museum’s official website. It has been a long and sometimes difficult road, but at last the Coats and Clark families, who added to Paisley’s fame throughout the world for its Paisley pattern shawls and for its poets, by building two huge thread mill complexes, and the thousands of men and women who worked in the mills, have their own museum. The museum, based on the ground floor of the mill in Seedhill Road, Paisley, is open every Wednesday and Saturday, from 12 noon until 4 p.m., from the beginning of April until the end of September. And thanks to the people who have generously donated mill memorabilia, there is plenty for visitors to see.

Volunteers, most of them former mill workers, staff the museum, which opened a few years ago and has been a success with visitors from all over the world. As has happened with we Scots throughout history, mill workers have travelled and settled throughout the world, and now, thanks to our new website, we are able to make contact with them, or with their families.
We also intend to set up a Mill Workers Reunited section to enable people to meet up with former colleagues. The museum itself has already seen more than a few reunions between visitors.
